Last Few Days of May

Thursday was a rough day for me. I was having some health issues (my heart) and end up spending the day in bed. I slept a lot and watched lots of NCAA World Series Softball. I felt really lazy, but actually didn't care much and that is how I knew I didn't feel well. I am feeling better now, but not totally myself yet.

Yesterday (okay so I didn't post this on the 31st, but I am pretending that I did), Jon and I went to Hiram, OH on some Stake Young Women business. We went with Margie Woodruff, the stake camp director, and Denise Dewey, the second counselor in the Stake YW. It was a really fun trip and we accomplished all we needed to accomplish. We left at 1:30 p.m. and got home at 9:00 p.m.

Toledo Zoo

Jon and I went to the zoo on Wednesday. We bought a membership to support our zoo back in March, so we decided we should use it. The weather was perfect! 60 degrees and sunny. It was a lot of fun! We got a little sunburned and my feet hurt, but it was still a great adventure. Here are some of the pictures that turned out the best.

There were a lot of schools at the zoo when we first got there. There was only one bus in the parking lot when we left. Polar Bear.Giraffes.Wildebeest.My favorite part was the Aviary. Sadly, most of the pictures I took of some really amazing birds were too blurry to post.I also liked the Conservatory. Probably because I am a plant person, but oh well.Jon really like the elephants. There was a trainer out getting the elephants to do all sorts of tricks. It was fun to see!

Who Traveled On Memorial Day Weekend?

Americans are driving less and less. Check out this article "As gas goes up, driving goes down" on CNN's web page. In March 2008, there was the steepest decrease in 50 years! How many people remember taking an Economic Class? What should happen when demand is down? Laws of supply and demand would say the price should drop. This was the gas companies logic a few years ago when demand was still rising and so were gas prices, but that is no longer the case. Does anyone know the last time traveling was this low on Memorial Day Weekend? It was during World War II when gas was being rationed. Crazy! Well, in honor of gas prices being the highest on average that they have ever been in the USA and demand being the lowest it has been in a very long time, I have some fun cartoons.

Weekend of Softball

Jon and I celebrated Jon being done with classes by walking to a softball game at Rolf Park. Perrysburg High School vs. Maumee High School. It is a big rivalry. It was a great! The final score was 1-0 Perrysburg.

Most of the rest of the weekend, we watched the Super Regional for NCAA Softball. It was great to watch so much softball. The World Series For NCAA Softball starts Thursday at 1:00 on ESPN for any interested. It should be good even though the team I was cheering for lost the last two of the three games in the Super Regional. So sad!

So, today marks the official end of my first year in Medical School. After two tests, one day after the other, my eyes hurt, my head hearts, but I'm happy. The final two exams were in Behavioral Science (Thursday), and Neuroscience (Today). About the only thing I got out of them was the final question on today's exam. "150. Which three movies did Dr. Elmer say all medical students must see before they finish school?" And the answer is... Awakenings, The Doctor, and Patch Adams. The good thing is, I have already seen two of the three (we actually own Patch Adams), and we watched a good enough portion of the third in class that I kind of got the gist of it. My favorite of the three is the Doctor. If you haven't seen it, it's a great one.

Now a new adventure begins. Summer break! But don't worry (I know you were), I will still be pretty busy. I have the job of helping oversee 12 research projects going on this summer in the Emergency Department at UT. Additionally, I am involved in 4 of them. My main project will have me as a part of the trauma team for 8 weeks. That means I get to be tied to a pager for most of that time, on call for any Level 1 or Level 2 traumas that arrive at the Emergency Room. Needless to say, I am really excited for the opportunity to get so much clinical experience and hope I can figure out whether or not I can enjoy emergency medicine. But, until then, a week to enjoy some time with Keriann, with nothing to study!!! Hurray!
