Tonka Truck

James is finally big enough to play with this Tonka truck he received for Christmas. He loves it! He gets a little frustrated that he cannot do much with it right now. Mostly, he pulls it to him and tries to get it in his mouth.

Toledo Zoo

Yesterday some friends from Michigan came down and we went to the zoo. It was an okay day weather wise at least at the beginning. It got more humid as we walked around. Then the sun came out, and it was getting warmer and humid. We decided we were done, but made a stop at the seals first, because Brett loves the seals.

As we were headed to the parking lot, I noticed some dark clouds, and a welcomed breeze was beginning to blow. Half way through the parking lot, it started to sprinkle. By the time we made it to the car, it was raining. We got the kids in the car. Then the strollers. As we were buckling the kids in, is started to pour. Since I only have one, I was in the car before Kat, but I felt really bad, because she ended up getting soaked. Of course, before we made it back to our apartment, the rain stopped. It was crazy!

I took a few pictures, but could not get James to look at me. There were just so many more exciting things to see. Here is James looking at the elephants, or he was watching Brett, who was looking at the elephants. This is Kat and Brett looking at the elephants. They do not know I took this picture, so I hope it is okay. Rhino. This bird was in the new section of the zoo. It moved really fast, so it was hard to get a picture of, but it was awesome colors. Natures Neighborhood, the new area of the zoo, is really cool. Last picture, James trying to hide under his hat. I had to lift his head up and squat down to get this one. We were at the penguins, but James was more interested in his book.

Storm

Yesterday, we had a pretty good down pour. It was really crazy! There was great lightning, thunder, and a ton of rain. I was going to take a picture of the storm, but it never happened. I went to check on James to make sure he was still asleep (he is napping better these days). Luckily I had put him down on my bed, because when I was looking in on him I heard running water.

"Great," I thought. "The windows are leaking again." Sure enough, the one window in James's room was leaking. I set my camera down and grabbed some towels. I also grabbed the phone and prayed that the office would still be open (it was about 5:30 p.m.). I talked to Ellen, our Apartment Manager, and sopped up water. Before I hung up, I heard more running water and discovered that the other window was also leaking!

Al, our Fix-it guy, is going to come today to fix the leaks. My sewing table has some water spots on it, but seems to have no other water damage. Our bookcase and book also seem to be okay. The edge of the bookcase just got a little wet. Looks like I need to rearrange the room a little, just in case this happens again. The picture are after I sopped up water.

Outside Swings

James loves the swings outside too. Now that he can hold up his head really well, he can enjoy the swings all the time. This is not his first time in the swing (I did not have my camera then). I am glad that so far he has not been cursed with the motion sickness that mommy and daddy both get on swings.

Michigan Adventure

Saturday night when Jon was finally done at the hospital, we drove up to Michigan. We wanted to eat at Panda Express in Ann Arbor, but it is not open on Saturdays (because it is on campus and it is summer). We ended up having Gyros at Ahmo's. We have eaten there before, but it has been about a year and a half.

Then, we brought James to see the temple. The parking lot was empty since the last session on Saturdays is at 6:00 p.m. James kept looking at the temple. He seemed to enjoy the adventure.

We were going to make a stop at IKEA, but because of construction and Jon not being able to leave the hospital until 5:00 p.m., IKEA was closed before we could get there. I guess we will just have to make another trip.

James enjoyed the ride in his new car seat. He can see out the window better. He occasionally would just start laughing. Do not know why, but it was really funny.

Messy Eater

James is enjoying making a mess when he eats. Here he is enjoying eating a graham cracker. I could not decide which picture I liked better, him smiling showing his teeth or the big eyes, so I will post both. (In the pictures he does not look that messy, but he had graham cracker everywhere!

Kai is Still Here

James still loves Kai. Here he is curled around Kai fast asleep. He has started rolling to his stomach in his crib and then getting mad because he does not like being on his stomach and he cannot roll back. Luckily, he only rolls to his left, so I put him on the left-side of the crib and he cannot roll over. Problem solved (until he starts rolling to the right).

Independence Day

Happy Pioneer Day! Just a few pictures from our Independence Day. James in red, white and blue thanks to Grandma. James watching as Dad and Steve played Warcraft. Jenni, thanks for letting him borrow a bib (well, two)!

Cars

James LOVES the movie Cars. He gets so excited when ever he sees Lightning McQueen. He also likes real cars. Here he is looking at Lightning McQueen on his sippy cup. (Thanks Grammy Brower for the Cars sippy cups!) Now, he will only drink out of these when he is in his high chair. Here he is with the movie case.

Girls' Camp

Girls' Camp was a lot of fun this year. I am glad we are going back to camping (tents, cooking, etc.). The Young Women can actually certify and learn the skills that camp was designed to teach them. This year was also a learning year for the leaders, and I have heard changes for next year.
I thought I would recap some of the activities.

On Monday, it was a day to set up and get things ready. The Stake Leaders and the YCL (Youth Camp Leaders) always go up one day early. We also went and picked strawberries just down the road and made freezer jam for pancakes later that week.

Tuesday, the rest of the campers arrived. Tents were put up. Then there were some games in the meadow. This lovely video is two young women "jousting" with water noodles and bouncy balls.

It was really fun to watch!

Wednesday was canoeing. Some got really wet, but not as many as would have if it had not been so cold. We eat "tin-foil calzones." My favorite meal at camp this year. Jon and James came to visit and I ended up going home with them for extended family reasons (despite what some might think).

Thursday was the hike, which I am really bummed that I missed. Then, they went swimming at the Hiram College. I took Jenni Toller up so she could be there for part of camp. She is the Young Women President in our ward and was 8 months pregnant at the time. Jenni and I just stayed a couple hours and came home.

Friday, they packed up and came home. Here is a slide show of the pictures I took.

Mount Vernon

The last place we visited while in the D.C. area was Mount Vernon. I would love to go back there some day, because it was so hot and humid, we did not get to see everything. It did cost a lot, so we will have to decide if the price is worth going back again.

The Museum of American History and the Air and Space Museum

We went to two of the Smithsonian Museums. First, we went to the Museum of American History. It was a little of a disappointment. Not exactly what we thought, but James loved the transportation part. What can I say? This boy LOVES cars! Jon liked the war part. Now that we have been to this one we know we do not need to go back any time soon. Here is a slide show of some of the museum.

Next we went to the Air and Space Museum. We all loved this one. Sadly, we did not have time to see it all before it closed, but this is one we wanted to go back to anyway. Here are our pictures from this one.

Random Pictures

Here are just a few random pictures from our trip to D.C. that did not really fit into any of the other posts. Do not worry I am almost done with all the pictures from our trip. Then, I will post a slide show of pictures from Girls' Camp. Then, it is back to the boring life of the Felts.

Here are a few pictures of James and Becca while most of the adults were moving furniture and boxes. James playing in the saucer in Becca's room (we were trying to stay out of the way). Becca having a turn in the saucer while I feed James, and everyone else was unloading things at the other house. James taking a nap in Becca's stroller, until his bed was ready. Both kids were pushed around the house in the stroller a lot during the move. It kept them happy.

We had the opportunity to go to the D.C. Temple. Thanks so much for baby sitting for us Sarah! Sorry he cried so much for you. We also enjoyed dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Yum!

One night after getting back from walking around D.C., Jon had James sitting on the table talking to him. James loved sitting on the table.

In D.C., there was this cool walkway under a building. It was cobble stone, and reminded Jon a little of Europe.
