Pictures

Jon scanned these while he was on campus yesterday so here are some pictures from my ultrasound. Now I know that looking at these for some is hard to see anything. I used to be that way too, but seeing it on the monitor during the actually ultrasound, has helped me so now I can see what the pictures really are. So if you still have problems with ultrasound pictures, I am truly sorry.

Here is his face.
A profile shot. For any who are still wondering if maybe he could still be a girl. His heartbeat. It was 160 at this time.
His arm up next to his head. You can also see his ribs. His feet with his ankles crossed.A hand. The other hand.

It's A . . . .

BABY! 10 fingers. 10 toes. Long legs.

I know what your thinking. Were they not able to tell boy or girl?

Isn't the suspense great?

57.1% of the votes said girl, 25.7 % boy, and 17.2% twins of some sort (I had to do the math because the poll numbers were wrong). Who was right? Well, there is only one baby so 15% were wrong. Those choices were only there because I have been giving Jon a hard time about having twins, so I do thank you for helping me keep that fear going.

Have you figured it our yet? Boy or Girl?

Jon and I thought it was a girl. My mom was even sure it was a girl. That is probably why there were so many votes for a girl. He is not a girl. We are having a boy. Everything looked good and he was kind of stubborn so it was hard for the tech. to get all the measurement she needed. She did finally get all of them and said he was a on the tall side for only being 18 weeks. At one point, it looked like he was sucking his thumb, and he had his ankles crossed and rubbing his feet like the Felt boys and grand kids do.

So there you go. The suspense is over. I will try to get pictures posted when we can get them scanned onto the computer.

Kind of New News

Well, for those who have not heard yet, I am pregnant. The above picture was actually taken on May 1, 2008. I am 4 1/2 months (18 weeks). Due on December 28, 2008 (according to the doctor), but I have been telling people Christmas. There is reasoning behind it, but not that important. Tomorrow, I have an ultrasound. Hopefully, Jon and I will be able to find out if I am having a boy or girls at that time. Now is the time for you to vote on what you think we are going to have, if you would like.

Here are two pictures of me starting to show. The first is at 14 weeks, taken on June 28, 2008 right before a stake youth dance.

This one was taken last night. Me at 18 weeks.

The Dark Knight

Jon and I went to see "The Dark Knight." We both really liked it. It was a little creepy, but not as dark as "Batman Begins," as far as the background. I think on thing that made it a little creepy was that the psycho is now dead in real life. Heath Ledger did an amazing job of playing the joker, but I have to wonder if getting into that roll caused some depression. Who knows. It was a really good movie, and we do recommend it.

Memory Lane

Thanks Katie!

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.

Handel's

Last night, Jon and I went to Handels's Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt in Sylvania. President Beck told us it was the best ice cream place in the Toledo area, so naturally we had to check it out. We got milkshakes, and I have to say that they were the best milkshakes I have had. My one complaint is that they did not have a red raspberry flavor for milkshakes, but the black raspberry was good. Just not the same. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good milkshake or some homemade ice cream.

Youth Conference

Youth Conference went really well. I have heard nothing but good from the youth and their parents! Yeah! That is a great sign. Pictures to come.

This year our stake did a wilderness youth conference. They do this particular one every four years at Kiser Lake State Park and a privately owned camp ground not far from the lake.

Everyone met at the Lima Chapel and said good-bye to their electronics (cell phones, i-pods, etc.) The youth were then divided into "families." There were 8 couples from the stake who acted as parents for these families. Jon and I were going to be one of the parent couples, but I had some health issues come up that made that too questionable, so I went as a stake leader and Jon came as "staff".

The families were carefully pick a few weeks ago, so the youth would not be with their friends or ward members if possible. The new families got to know each other a little and made banners to represent their family. Starting at 9:00 p.m., the families left the chapel with 15 minutes between each one.

They then did about a mile or two hike in the dark to the campground. The hike had to be altered last minute since it was a muddy mess and in the lake at times. Also because of this the location might be changed in four years. Anyway, the reason for this was to pull them together as a family, so they could make it through the rest of the activities. There were only a few injuries, and some of the groups got their experience cut short because it was getting really bad as more and more traffic went over the trail.

When they made it into the camp, their things were already in their cabins, so the exhausted families could go straight to bed (don't worry the boys and girls were well separated). When all the problems were worked out, like finding enough beds for the girls, the stake leaders went to bed around 2:30 a.m.

The next morning, breakfast was an orange. The youth were to study their orange close their eyes and roll it to the center with the other oranges from their family. Then they had to find their orange and eat it. This was the only food they were getting until dinner. No it was not a money issue. They did get as much water as they could drink, and those with blood sugar issues were taken care of too.

From breakfast until dinner, the families rotated through a bunch of games, which had parallels to life. Each game was discussed at some point when it was finished. At 5:00, each family member wrote something nice about the others in their family on note cards. At 5:30 they collected their food and brought it back to their families to cook together. It was an all you can eat beef stew and Navajo Fry Bread (I knew them as scones). Some groups even got more creative and made french fries.

All day the stake leaders were also doing the no food thing. It was a long day. We were not doing the activities that the families were doing. We were trying to keep things running smoothly, and it turned out that did not take much. The hardest part was President Beck (1st Counselor in the Stake Presidency) talked about food all day. He apparently loves to cook and has agreed to cook for the Stake Young Women's and Young Men's Presidencies for a meeting to go over what was good and what should be changed for this youth conference. We are all excited for that!

After dinner, the families had their own testimony meetings where each member could share their feelings about the day and what they learned. At this time, since we were allowed to eat and President Beck had made a junk food run to town earlier that day, we had a little party. It was also Brother Allen's birthday (he is the 1st Counselor in the Stake Young Men's Presidency). Most of the youth ended up finding us after their meetings and enjoying cookies and candy with us. I went to bed at about 11, but there were people up until 2 again.

The next morning, was all you can eat breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, watermelon, cantaloupe, oranges (a few were left over, and no one really took any this morning), bananas, OJ, and milk. Then everyone packed up their stuff and loaded it into a trailer. I might add that to make the morning more exciting, two people locked their keys in their cars. One was in the trunk. So AAA was called. They came during later activities. They were able to get one set of keys, but the ones in the trunk were another story. Apparently the '98 Toyota Corolla's do not all have trunk releases inside the car, and the back seats do not go down. So this poor couple had to go all the way back to Toledo, get their spare keys, and then go get their car. So sad!

The youth were then allowed to do a Solo experience. They had letters, which their parents had written to them. They were allowed time to think about all that had happened to them in the last day and a half and the love of their Savior for them and then read the letters. The weather to this point was really good, but as they were all out in the woods, big dark clouds moved in, and it started to pour! Everyone got a little wet. Needless to say some got a "shower," even though they were told not to use the showers in the bathrooms.

After, we had a testimony meeting with everyone. It was amazing to see the changes. Some of the shyest youth shared their testimonies in front of everyone. It was great to see that they knew more now then before their Savior's love for them. They had also made friends with everyone in their "family."

It was a success! There were only a few I wanted to strangle, but for the most part I learned more about the strengthen there is in the youth of this church. It was a great experience far all involved as far as I know.

July 8 Storm

We had a crazy storm yesterday afternoon. The wind started blowing around 2:40 p.m. We went from a Thunderstorm Watch to a Thunderstorm Warning to a Tornado Warning within about a half an hour. It was raining so hard, visibility was practically nothing, and the water shooting out from the rain gutters was like a monsoon! At times the rain was horizontal! I have to say thanks to Al, our fix-it guy, who fixed our windows before this storm so they do not leak anymore. They were sure tested, and no leaking. YEAH!

The worst of the storm was past us by about 3:30 p.m. I am so amazed at how fast these big storms move past. We still had rain for a while, but the trees were not dancing and threatening to break. Jon and I were trying to figure out were we should go, since we were being told to go to our basements. Where is the safest place in our apartment if a tornado does hit us?

I go the pictures from a local TV station (WTOL Channel 11) and click here to see their slide show. I tried to put it in my post, but it would not work.

The Start of July

I haven't posted in a week! My summer has been that way. Everything has been turned upside down. So since last week, what have we been up to?

One night last week, Jon and I tried a new restaurant. It was really good! It's called Mr. Gyro's. Jon has been searching for something that is most like a Kabob (said Kay-bob), which he really enjoyed in Switzerland. I thought this one tasted the best out of all the ones we have had all across the country. He said it was the best too, but that the sauce still was not exactly right. If you would like to try something Greek, try their Original Gyro. It is tasty!

For the forth, Jon went to work at noon. Most of the day, I did not do anything. For dinner, I went to a barbecue with the other Med. Students/Residents, their wives and children(the ones that are still here anyway), and a new couple that just moved in. Jon surprised me, when he came home right before and was able to be there for a little while. He did get a page and had to try and beat the life flight back to the hospital. Then, those of us who were left at the barbecue, minus one family, went to watch the fireworks. I have to say that I will never go to downtown Toledo to watch the fireworks again. Scary, even with the whole city there. The firework show was good. It reminded me a lot of the one in Idaho Falls. About the same length and quality. The better firework shows (being Toledo and Idaho Falls) I have been too.

Sunday, I was supposed to go down to the St. Marys' Branch, but Sister Dewey was sick, so we are going to reschedule that visit. It turned out to be a fairly relaxing Sunday.

Now I am just trying to help get things ready for Youth Conference at the end of this week. It should be a ton of fun, and I really hope the youth have a good experience. More on that to come next week.

I have been waiting until I got some other pictures from Girls Camp before I posted more. At the point that I am at my camera started acting weird, so I don't have very many good pictures of the second half of that week. My friend, Julia, said she was going to give me copies of her pictures, but she has been really busy. Hopefully, I can get those and post the rest soon. Sorry it has been so drawn out.

Here is a picture of some of the leaders and girls making candle by pouring hot wax over ice. It had a really cool effect.

More From Camp

Not much going on here, so I thought I would post a few more pictures from camp.

Doing "Personal Surveillance." The had to read different scriptures and answer questions.More "Personal Surveillance"Everyone got the opportunity to put their "spy" names on the back of their camp shirts. Just remember the irons are hot. We only have one second degree burn.It did not take long before those in charge were desperate for some chocolate. Even a YCL wanted some chocolate so bad that she was willing to lick it off Margie's face!Shhhh! Don't tell Sister Wood.On Wednesday, we paired up the girls and divided up the Book of Mormon, so we, as a camp, could read the whole Book of Mormon in half an hour. It was really awesome to watch and listen to them as they read.
Free time! Some played volleyball......and some played tag. This is what the cleanest cabin was awarded. Their YCL had to wear this through lunch.

Excitment in Michigan

Thursday night, Jon and I had our usual Panda Express and temple trip to Michigan. As has been the norm (except the two times before), there was some excitement. Not long after we crossed the border into Michigan, traffic stopped. When we finally made it to the cause, we found the left lane blocked by a police car with its lights going. The road in the other side of the car was the cause. There was a huge hole in the pavement, which spread across the entire lane and a little into the right lane. There was also pieces of pavement all over the road. We saw ten flat tires as a result of this problem. It was a little crazy!

Then a storm hit as we were leaving Ann Arbor with our Orange Chicken. It was pretty intense! Luckily Jon grew up in Seattle and has driven in blinding rain quite a bit, and we made it to Bloomfield Hills in one piece. The drive home was, as usual, uneventful.

Last night at about 1:00 a.m. (so maybe it was this morning), we had some pretty incredible lightning and thunder. I woke up and could here running water coming from our other bedroom. I went in there to see what was going on, only to find a waterfall. One of our windows was leaking really bad. I got some towels to soak up the water. Luckily, the rain didn't last too long, so the waterfall stopped and I just had to soak up what had already come in. I did check our other windows, and they seem fine.

So for another camp moment, Tuesday morning that week when all the girls arrived, the YCLs, in there "spy outfits", were along the dirt road into camp with squirt guns. They seemed to have fun welcoming everyone to camp.

Here is Lena, from the St Marys Branch, Tori, who is new in the Toledo 1 Ward, and Ginger, from the Fremont Branch, ready for action. Here is where the girls registered for camp, and got everything they would need for the week.Cortney and Kaitlyn excited for camp. The next two pictures are the Stake Camp Director welcoming the girls and leaders to camp. Don't they look excited?
